FROM YOUR CRIT COUNSELOR:
As we near the end of another year, we enter a season often filled with celebration, giving thanks, and reflection. For many, Thanksgiving and Christmas bring opportunities to gather with family and friends and create special memories. However, this time of year can also bring emotional challenges.
The holidays may remind us of loved ones who are no longer with us, bring attention to strained family relationships, or create stress related to finances and family expectations. It is important to remember that we can experience gratitude and sadness at the same time. We do not have to feel happy all the time to appreciate the good things in our lives.
Here are five gentle reminders to help you navigate this season:
- Be Grateful. Take a moment each day to recognize the little things that bring joy, comfort, or peace into your life.
- Focus on One Thing at a Time. You don’t have to do everything or make everything perfect. Take things one step at a time.
- Relax and Recharge. Give yourself permission to rest. Take a deep breath, enjoy a quiet moment, or do something that makes you happy.
- Make Room for Joy. Allow yourself to laugh, have fun, create new memories, and enjoy the little moments. You deserve happiness, too!
- Remember, This Time Will Pass. Difficult emotions and stressful moments are temporary. Be patient and gentle with yourself. You don’t have to have everything figured out today.
As you celebrate this season, remember that taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of everyone else. Give yourself grace, appreciate how far you’ve come, and remember that you deserve moments of peace, love, and happiness.
You don’t have to have a perfect holiday to have meaningful moments.
